Do you see what I see?

many things but most importantly... FOUR MATCHING CHAIRS! It makes ALL the difference. Not really but it is nice. Very good condition, thrift store IKEA chairs that actually match the table, by odd chance. 7 bucks each. I had to Bragg...

New glasses! At least, I like them....

Blaize said: What are those new glasses, mom? They are YUCK! They're bad. I don't like them. Take them BACK!

Francesca's First Official Week: Her teacher's report.

Bonjour,

And there it is! Our first week in Kindergarten! We had a great time with each other, getting to learn the ropes, procedures, etc. Seriously, we already had our first fire drill!

Here are more specifics:

In French:
  • We looked at the letters of the alphabet and although most of the students know them in English, we are going to spend some time getting to learn them in French. We learned the alphabet song, played a puzzle game with some of our friends' names and explored the concept of straight lines and curved lines when looking at capital letters.
  • In terms of vocabulary, we are spending some time getting to learn the names of objects in the classroom (pencils, markers, etc.). We have done a couple of activities, including one in which we practiced asking the question: "What is it?" ("Qu'est ce que c'est?") so that they can eventually ask Mme Souaad or me when they come across something they need the name of.
  • We also learned 3 songs: J'ai un nom, un prénom
  •                                       L'Alphabet
  •                                       Our goodbye song: L'heure des mamans

In Math:
We are learning the names of numbers through 10. We practiced counting on from a different number each time. We practiced writing the numbers 1 and 2 "the right way" (you'll find I'm a stickler for fine motor mechanics), and were able to have fun playing a dice game. We also spent 4 days playing and exploring with a lot of different manipulatives.

In terms of everything else, we still have to get used to our schedule and streamline some transitions a little, but this group of kiddos is a pretty special one. We were able to go to Lincoln High School on Thursday for the first time after spending the first days practicing walking in line and crossing streets and I can report that we have been very safe and responsible during the walks to and from.

On Monday, the cafeteria rules change a little so make sure that your child has his or her water bottle. Also, it would make our lives a little easier if the snack they have in the morning is clearly marked if it is in the same container as the lunch.

Thursday the 18th is Back to School Night. Please plan on being there. I will go over important information regarding a variety of topics.

I am planing on taking the students on a field trip to the farmers marketon Wednesday, September 24th. It is a short walk from here, but I wanted to make sure that you knew ahead of time.

I hope you all have a great weekend and get plenty of rest. The fun resumes on Monday!
