Francesca's co- starring role in the Unity Christmas play 🎄

She is the "Angel Star Keeper of the Gift of Listening"

"Everyone, and I mean EVERYone, needs to slooooow dooooooowwnnnnn ....."

Acorn the snow kid, by Francesca.

I just couldn't get enough of this little series... Blaize is snow "shoveling"/sweeping in case it wasn't obvious...

Second snow day in 7 days, and yesterday was early release due to snow! And tomorrow: another snow day!!

Fwd: Happy Winter Break early!

This post is kind of boring in one way- a lot of text no pictures .... but it's from Francesca's teacher Kate. I just cannot imagine a better teacher- skilled, passionate and communicative. A gem, just a gem. And you get a good sense of Francesca's learning so far in 2nd grade...

Subject: Happy Winter Break early!

Bonjour parents,

Well, the weather has really not been on our side these past few weeks, but I hope all our wolves are loving the snow & having a blast!

This is a little note to say that I've been so proud of your children these past four months. They've been working so hard and had a really wonderful attitude in class. Here are just a few things they have to be proud of in 2016:

1. Learning addition & subtraction concepts with regrouping up to 999 (or beyond!) — not to mention applying these to measurement in metric and standard!

2. Giving literally hundreds of kindness ribbons! (It's getting tougher to find the wire on the wreath, and we're well into the second batch of ribbons.)

3. Learning to read using specific strategies (which we'll be adding more of as the year goes on).

4. Being exceptionally well-behaved on every field trip so far.

5. Thinking critically about math to answer questions such as "What operation(s) do I need to solve this word problem?" or "Where did Mme Kate make a mistake in her math problem?" (They are occasionally shown incorrect math and asked how to fix it — though I do make mistakes in math occasionally, and they do a good job of correcting those too!)

6. Applying the same critical thinking to science to learn about food webs and organisms, including growing their own plants.

7. Being so respectful during lunchtime that their supervisor Mme Carla recently told me it's one of her favorite parts of the day when she comes to read with them.

8. Being so enthusiastic about trying their best & wanting extra work that I've had to make extra second challenge packets this year just to keep up!

9. Learning new and challenging songs (involving rounds and complicated lyrics), both in and out of music class.

10. Putting a smile on their teacher's face every single day.

This has been a great start to a wonderful year. I'm looking forward to seeing your students back in 2017! Have a happy winter break.
